Willis and Helen
In 1951, Willis and Helen Christman moved to Lebanon to open the Christman Funeral Home. Over the years they were supporters of Spang Crest Manor; they delivered oranges to the residents at Christmas.
Because they had a vision of wanting to improve health care in the community, they decided to make a special gift to the Memory Support Center. Their $1 million gift represents a great commitment and will have a special significance and impact. The Willis R. and Helen M. Christman Memory Support Center is a special legacy from them which reflects their values.
Mary Kreider
A Legacy of Flowers Brightens the Spirit
After she retired from her career as a teacher, Mary Kreider took a job as the Volunteer Coordinator at Spang Crest Manor in Lebanon. It was there that she learned that flowers and bright colors helped to cheer the seriously ill residents in the skilled nursing center.
She had a dream for making the entrance to Spang Crest Manor look like a place you came to get well or feel better and more cheerful by seeing colorful plants and flowers. Together Mary and Cathy Savant, Spang Crest’s Administrator, made her dream a reality. They worked with a local nursery to select flowers, plants, hanging baskets and a fountain to brighten and enhance the grounds around the entrance to the building. Neighbors, visitors, staff and residents all value the intense color the garden adds to the landscape. It brightens the spirit.
When asked why she sponsored the gardens, Mary replied, “My husband and I were blessed in many ways. Our gifts reflect our commitment to helping others. I hope more people are inspired to do the same.”
To be certain that the gardens will be at Spang Crest for the next generation; Mary included a gift in her estate plan, which established an endowment to keep her flowers blooming. Thanks to Mary’s generosity, they will.
