Residents of Luther Acres, the Luthercare community in Lititz, have been working for months to prepare items for the upcoming Annual Holiday Bazaar. This year, the event will be held on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18. The doors of the Community Room, in the Towne Center at 250 St. Luke Drive, Lititz, will open on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, sales will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m. Shoppers will be able to pay for their purchases via cash or check at each section of the Bazaar or take a slip(s) to the credit card cashier to pay for their purchases there.
Preparing for the sale takes a lot of planning, organizing and coordinating! The Attic Treasures Committee, under the direction of Chairpersons Alice Murray and Diane Kline, will offer a premium selection of many gently-used household goods and carefully chosen items from Luther Acres residents.
Marcia Klopp and Marie Ward chair the Jewelry Committee, which has been sorting and pricing necklaces, bracelets and earrings to be sold for new users. Donated by residents and their families, these items are extremely varied in appearance and design.
The Baked Goods Committee, with Suzanne Wragg and Lenoir Wible as co-chairs, will be selling home-baked cakes, cookies, pies, candy and other goodies in the space of the Pub, located across the hall on Luther Acres’ “Main Street” of the Towne Center. Baked goods from Luther Acres residents frequently sell out before the end of the Bazaar, so many customers have learned to buy early.
This year’s expanded “Craft Section,” chaired by Janice Young, will offer many different crafts made by Luther Acres residents including: knitted hats and scarves for adults and children, as well as totes of different sizes, embroidered gifts, ornaments, holiday décor and so much more! Be sure not to miss this section.
This year’s Silent Auctions will take place in the Community Room. All proceeds from the auctions will be directed toward providing assistance for Luther Acres residents who have exhausted their financial resources through no fault of their own. During the silent auctions it will also be possible to make cash or check contribution to this fund.
The Silent Auction will contain many items from local stores, restaurants, businesses and Luther Acres independent living residents, including our talented woodworkers. On Friday evening, some of these items will be offered for bids while another selection will be featured on Saturday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Some of these items include: A Bruce Johnson print, “250th Anniversary of Lititz”; three framed prints by Tom F. Hermansader; two items by Constantine G. Kermes and a Fraktur painting by Pamela Jean Whitacre. In addition to the art section, items will be offered in the following categories: furniture and collectibles, handcrafted wood items from our residents, handspun/hand-woven scarves and towels, a variety of gift baskets, one-of-a-kind presents, and gift certificates from local stores and restaurants. Bids may be offered and increased during Friday’s evening session and during the Saturday hours with a “Buy It Now” price in effect at the beginning of each session. Payment may be made with cash, check or credit card.
In conjunction with the Bazaar, you can enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast in Katy’s Grill in the Towne Center, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, November 18. Hosted by the Friends of Luther Acres, the breakfast features pancakes, sausage and juice for $5.
