Luther Acres Offers Spring Courses

Luther Acres, a Luthercare community, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, is offering a variety of courses for its Spring 2018 "reDiscover A World of Possibilities" program. The courses are one day a week, and some cover a two-, three-, four- or six-week period. All are open to the greater community. The courses are held on the Luther Acres campus and have varying fees for residents and non-residents; some courses are free to attend. The purpose of the "reDiscover" program is to provide an opportunity to learn new things, be creative, enrich minds and have fun!

The courses for Spring 2018 are:

  • Everyone with Diabetes Counts – This six-session Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) is a program developed by Medicare to help people with pre-diabetes and existing diabetes, their relatives and caregivers gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care. Sessions are: Thursdays, May 3, 10, 17 and 31 and June 7 and 14, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Safe Driving – By reducing risk factors and incorporating safe driving practices, many individuals can continue driving safely long into their senior years. This course will identify risk factors and teach how to apply safe driving practices and will include an interactive clinic to screen the key skills needed for driving: vision, cognition, perception and reaction time. Sessions will be: Wednesdays, May 9 and 16, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Yoga for Healthy Aging – Taught by Michele Zerbey, a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, this course is designed to help participants enjoy the process of getting older – and wiser – by learning what the mind and body need for optimal health. A well-rounded yoga practice cultivates strength, flexibility and balance for maintaining physical, mental and emotional well-being throughout your life. Poses can be modified to every body type and level of ability. Sessions are: Thursdays, May 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
  • Gentle Joints –The sessions, taught by Luther Acres Wellness Specialist Collean Riehl in the Luther Acres Wellness Center pool, are designed for people with joint pain and those desiring a lower intensity class. Join us and discover the benefits of water! Sessions are: Wednesdays, May 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. 
  • Celebrate National Salad Month – Join the staff of FLIK Lifestyles, Luthercare’s culinary partner, as they teach us the endless combinations of vegetables and protein sources to create a quick, healthy meal. Watch as they talk about and prep the ingredients and taste the wonderful creations. Sessions are: Tuesdays, May 15, 22 and 29, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Discover the Benefits of Water Exercise with an Aqua Circuit – This water class, taught by Luther Acres Wellness Specialist Collean Riehl, is designed to provide a full body strength and cardiovascular workout. Sessions are: Tuesdays, May 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.
