Luthercare’s SAIL Collaborative Awarded a Collective Impact Grant from the United Way of Lancaster

Luthercare and five collaborative partners have been awarded a United Way of Lancaster Collaborative Impact Grant for its SAIL (Systems Aligned In Learning) proposal submitted in February 2015. The SAIL Collaborative will receive $207,000 each year during a three-year funding period, for a total award of $621,000.

Luthercare, which operates Luthercare for Kids Early Learning Programs, will be joined by the Library System of Lancaster County, the Lancaster County Council of Churches, Fizika Group, COBYS and the South Central Regional Key to bridge the gap in Kindergarten Readiness for preschool children cared for in home-based childcare environments throughout Lancaster County.

By aligning the United Way’s Bold Goals with the organizational strengths of each collaborative partner, Systems Aligned in Learning (SAIL) will offer home providers of childcare, and the at-risk families they serve, the same resources and nurturing counsel available in center-based preschools, which prepare children to be ready learners. Specifically, the SAIL partners will focus on the following essential components to healthy development and learning:

  • Luthercare for Kids’ Mobile Mentoring Program is the foundation for the SAIL Collaborative and currently provides training and educational materials to home-based providers in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.
  • Library System of Lancaster County will provide mobile library resources, training in early childhood literacy and STEM modules.
  • Lancaster County Council of Churches will facilitate nutrition training for providers and families and deliver bags of healthy food.
  • Fizika will inspire healthy brain development through physical education programs tailored to the home-based environment.
  • COBYS will use interactive workshops to assist caregivers in creating learning-ready environments where children thrive.
  • South Central Regional Key will offer home-based providers the resources necessary to achieve a post-secondary credential.

All services provided through the SAIL collaborative will be offered free of charge.
