Summer 2018 was a Very Busy Time for Luthercare!

We kicked off the season with the 9th annual Red, White and Blueberry Jamboree on the campus of St. John’s Herr Estate, the Luthercare senior living community in Columbia. The day featured the famous 300-pound blueberry pie, a wildlife presentation by ZooAmerica® North American Wildlife Park, and tours of senior living apartments, cottages and personal care suites. Additionally, throughout the summer, St. John’s Herr Estate residents and children from the nearby Luthercare for Kids school-age summer program had an opportunity to connect in meaningful ways through the intergenerational program at the campus.

At Spang Crest, thanks to a sponsorship by the Friends of Spang Crest auxiliary organization, the Summer Concert Series continued in the outdoor pavilion area of the Lebanon campus. Among many other events and activities this summer, Spang Crest hosted outdoor family picnics and the annual visit from the ice cream truck, which provided delicious treats for residents, team members and families.

Meanwhile, Luther Acres held its annual Strawberry Festival on the lawn of the Lititz campus in June. Residents and visitors could purchase strawberries, ice cream and shortcakes, as well as hot dogs and other items, as a fundraiser that supports the charitable activities of the Luther Acres Residents’ Council and the endeavors of the Friends of Luther Acres auxiliary.

And the children participating in our summer camps at our Luthercare for Kids Early Learning Centers have had a blast taking part in camp weeks that focus on culinary arts, science, art and the outdoors! They’ve taken field trips to local art studios, bakeries and more to learn from the experts and get some hands-on experience. The centers have also celebrated special days, such as International Mud Day in June and World Jump Day in July, allowing associated activities to be teachable moments and promoting physical activity and a sense of community all the same time!
