When it came to deciding where she would spend her next chapter, Linda Leidy chose Luther Acres because it was close to home and offered a new experience in the delightful town of Lititz. What makes Luther Acres truly feel like home for her is the atmosphere, kind people, activities, and wonderful amenities.
Originally from southern Schuylkill County, Linda attended Millersville University and later moved to East Petersburg. She spent 36 years teaching German at Cedar Crest High School in Cornwall-Lebanon. There Linda enjoyed making her classes engaging and was especially proud to see students’ growth.
Although Linda enjoyed her life in East Petersburg, after a particularly snowy winter spent shoveling her driveway, she decided she was ready to move to a senior living community and leave behind the hassles of homeownership. Other priorities in her search included staying close to her family and having access to continuing care for the future. Before choosing, Linda did plenty of research by touring, visiting, and attending events at various communities. As she considered her options, she ultimately felt that the people, location, and atmosphere of Luther Acres made it the right choice for her. “I always felt more comfortable here than anywhere else,” Linda said. After waiting for the right apartment, Linda finally moved into our Lititz community in February 2018.
Since joining our community, Linda has stayed very active and can often be found in the campus Wellness Center. She particularly enjoys the early morning classes we offer, such as Water Works and Total Body Toning, as well as outings with the “Got Sole” Walking Group. “I love the Wellness Center. It was a great way, when I first moved here, to get to know people,” Linda said.
Linda is also an avid volunteer and serves as the representative for the her apartment building on the Residents’ Council. In this role, she meets new residents and introduces them to the community. Additionally, she is a member of the Neighbor to Neighbor group, a resident-led welcoming committee. Linda has previously served as the vice president of the Residents’ Council and as a member of the Dining Committee.
Between her busy schedule, Linda enjoys dining at our on-campus dining venues. Her favorite dish is the macaroni and cheese with stewed tomatoes in Katy’s Grill, but she also likes getting coffee and drinks from Coffee & Cork, attending happy hour socials, and trying something new at our monthly Chef’s Table dinners. She appreciates the convenience of on-campus dining: “I would never have to leave this building. Everything is here,” she said.
Another benefit of living at Luther Acres is the proximity to downtown Lititz, where Linda enjoys the many charming shops, cafés, and restaurants. Some of her favorites are The Bull’s Head Tavern, Rooster Street, and the Slate Cafe. For longer walks, Linda enjoys hiking on the Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trial, which starts just a 5-minute walk away from campus.
When not in Lititz, Linda enjoys traveling all over the world. Since retiring she has visited many places in the United States and other countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Canada, Mexico, and most recently, Italy. Linda loves having the freedom to explore and immerse herself in the food, culture, and language. And now, she no longer has to worry about yardwork, home maintenance, or shoveling snow while she’s on her next adventure!
