Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is there a minimum age to volunteer?
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to serve in the Personal Care or Skilled Nursing Care settings of our senior living communities and within our Luthercare for Kids Early Learning Centers. All required clearances must also be on file. Individuals under 18 can volunteer in Independent Living areas of our senior living communities, depending on the role and level of supervision required.
-
How flexible is the schedule?
Volunteer hours are flexible. Scheduling is coordinated by the volunteer’s supervisor, with the goal of accommodating the volunteer’s availability as much as possible.
-
What kind of training is required?
Volunteers are expected to review and sign our Volunteer Handbook, which outlines responsibilities, safety expectations, and fire safety procedures. In addition, all new volunteers participate in a general orientation to help them get acclimated to Luthercare and understand key policies relevant to their role. We also offer training through the National Association of Long-Term Care Volunteers. This training is designed to be helpful and informative — never overwhelming — so volunteers feel prepared.
