Spang Crest’s Executive Director Supporting Real Men Wear Pink Campaign

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Daniel Deitzel, Executive Director at Spang Crest, a Luthercare community in Lebanon, will wear pink every day this month to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Dan is participating in the Real Men Wear Pink of the Lower Susquehanna Valley’s campaign. The campaign shows support and raises awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society’s fight against breast cancer. Real Men Wear Pink of the Lower Susquehanna Valley is a distinguished group of community leaders from Lebanon, Lancaster and York counties who have stepped up to help make a difference for this important cause.

For Dan, supporting the American Cancer Society is personal.

“In 2014, I was sitting in a meeting in our conference room and a physician was sitting next to me. He noticed an unusual spot on my neck and told me I should have this checked out. I saw this mole many times and paid no attention for years, but since the physician made a point to tell me, I thought perhaps I should see a specialist. I went to the dermatologist and found out I had a malignant melanoma. It had to be removed and then the areas around the mole had to be wide enough to ensure they removed all of the cancer. Over the course of 4 months, they did this procedure three times, and finally it was all removed. I have been cancer-free for over 5 years now. I support the American Cancer Society and their efforts to fight all types of cancer.”
